Hello! Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me.

My name is Laura Piper, formerly Laura Mastin. I grew up in Holt, MI, attended Michigan State University, moved to Chicago for three years upon graduation and taught south of the city loving every minute of my urban teaching experience. My husband transferred jobs in April of 2013 and after my school year finished near Chicago, I joined him in Saline, MI. We are enjoying our new home and community, the only thing missing for me is a teaching career.

I have been substitute teaching while job searching, in addition to continuing to work on my Master's Degree through Michigan State University. Substitute teaching has made me more well rounded. It has afforded me the opportunity to be in various grade levels and districts all while absorbing different teaching strategies, classroom management, and curriculums. In May, 2014 I completed two  courses toward my Master's Degree. One focused on integrating technology within the classroom, the other focused on reading assessment and instruction. This time to further develop my teaching practices has been valuable and now I am ready to get back into the classroom and apply what I have learned!

The wealth of knowledge I learned during the beginning of my teaching career in an urban district will be applicable and beneficial to any classroom. Through this experience classroom management and differentiated instruction became my strengths. Through Michigan State University's five-year teacher certification program I had the opportunity to work in a classroom three of the four years leading up to the fifth year internship. My experiences were fulfilled in urban, and rural districts. This diversity, along with my Study Abroad program in the Dominican Republic, has helped me become a more versatile and resourceful teacher.
